WASHINGTON
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Vizient Inc.’s Senior Vice President for sourcing operations, David Gillan, today joins health care leaders from across the nation to discuss the needs and challenges caused by recent intravenous (IV) fluid shortages as well as finding sustainable solutions to alleviate future shortages. The panel, Be a Part of the Solution – Alleviating IV Fluid Shortages, is hosted by B. Braun Chairman and CEO Caroll H. Neubauer and will take place from 8:00-9:30 a.m. at the Reserve Officers Association on Capitol Hill in Washington.
“I am looking forward to participating in this discussion with other industry leaders. The shortages of IV fluids experienced by providers after Hurricane Maria devastated manufacturing capabilities in Puerto Rico were significant, and we applaud B. Braun for hosting this discussion on mitigating future product availability challenges,” said Gillan.
Gillan has 30 years in health care leadership and leads Vizient’s national group purchasing organization (GPO) contracting in the medical, surgical, distribution and physician preference/device categories.
Vizient works with both suppliers and its member hospitals to help ensure adequate supplies of IV fluids are consistently available and affordable. Protections against shortage-induced market dynamics are part of Vizient’s contracting process and are provided for in our national agreements to better meet member needs. For providers, Vizient offers resources and education on alternative products and conservation strategies to sustain operations and provide patient care during shortage situations while also reducing waste when supply is adequate.
