Leading a large hospital or health system has always been uniquely challenging, but that’s especially true today with so many disruptions in normal operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Hospital CEOs have been seeking creative ideas in many areas, from staffing and other operational issues, to financial and capital concerns, to integrating telehealth into managing the health of the populations they serve.
Those are the areas where the new Vizient CEO Community Experience can help CEOs and other executive leaders. The CEO Community Experience is available to members of the Chief Executive Officers Network. The community provides an online forum for CEOs, CNOs, CMOs and other c-suite colleagues to access ideas, ask questions and learn from each other within a trusted community.
“This secure community platform provides a forum for hospital CEOs, in particular, to obtain information and receive real-time input from peers across the country as well as subject matter experts at Vizient,” said Tom Spindler, Vizient Group SVP, networks “They can post an idea or ask a question across the entire membership, which is extremely powerful.”
The new offering, which was launched in December 2021, is an outgrowth of Vizient’s list-serves for both academic medical centers and non-academic medical centers. “The CEO Community Experience takes our very popular list-serves for members to another level,” according to Spindler.
Find it on the Vizient Community platform
The CEO Community Experience is part of the online Vizient Community, which has grown to more than 27,000 users in more than 70 groups. The Vizient Community is hosted on a secure online platform and provides a robust array of benefits to the community’s participants. It is a collaboration hub that enables members to ask questions of peers across the country, share information, ask for and make recommendations, collaborate on projects, sign up for meetings, download newsletters and other member content, and register for webinars tailored to their specific interests.
Though Vizient staff monitors the community, can facilitate communication on behalf of members and provides resources and information, the strength of the community is driven by the participation of the community members as they share their interests and what they need help with, such as care models, capital plans, financial and operational issues, working with contract physicians, etc.
Because of the travel limitations brought on by the COVID pandemic with fewer in-person opportunities to interact, Spindler and his team envision the CEO Community Experience to become an even more valuable tool for information-sharing both in the near term and in the future. “We know that Vizient members really value learning from each other and the different perspectives from hospital markets across the country. This community will help bridge the gap and make networking easier,” said Spindler.
A trusted resource for hospital leaders
While online community platforms are not unique to Vizient, Spindler says that what makes the CEO Community Experience unique is the trusted relationships among members that have been established over time. “With this platform, Vizient members know they will be sharing with other member executives as well as with Vizient’s staff experts,” says Spindler. “There is a level of trust among members that facilitates meaningful, open dialogue.
In addition to the CEO Community Experience, there are additional CEO community groups for academic medical centers and community-based independent health systems.
