Gena Futral, MHA, RN, CPHQ, FACHE

In her role at Vizient, Gena is responsible for solutions supporting cultural transformations, building improvement and sustainability infrastructures, embedding regulatory compliance into the foundation of quality and safety programs, and collaborating and improving through a Patient Safety Organization to decrease harm events. Through her decade tenure with Vizient, Gena has developed and executed multiple strategic, operational and performance improvement solutions all aimed at supporting healthcare organizations’ journey to achieve and sustain performance excellence.

Gena leads three teams and each are critical to achieving high-reliability: (1) Accreditation & Regulatory Compliance Advisors – compliance is foundational to delivering high-quality and safe care in safe workplaces, (2) Patient Safety Organization – an ongoing programmatic offering that builds cultures of safety by creating a collaborative and safe environment to discuss and eliminate high-harm events, and (3) Reliability & Management Systems – focused on transforming cultures, leaders and improvement infrastructures grounded in high-reliability principles thus creating mindfulness, trust, accountability and competency so performance excellence can be achieved and sustained.

Formally, Gena was a senior consultant with Goodroe Healthcare Solutions and assisted cardiovascular programs with strategic planning, physician-hospital alignment, clinical reengineering, certificate of need and development of new programs. Prior, she was the cardiovascular service line administrator for a tertiary hospital and began her career as an orthopedic and critical care nurse.

Gena earned a master’s in healthcare policy and administration and a doctorate in health administration specializing in quality and analytics. She is certified in Total Quality Management and a former facilitator and team leader instructor. She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society.
