IRVING, Texas, December 2, 2021 - Today, Vizient, Inc. expressed disappointment that Congress has excluded critical Medicare relief for hospitals in the Continuing Resolution (CR) that would temporarily fund the government. Without congressional action, hospitals and health care providers will face significant Medicare payment reductions due to the termination of relief from sequestration cuts and implementation of Statutory Pay-As-You-Go (PAYGO) requirements. Combined, these cuts would lead to a 6% reduction in Medicare reimbursement for hospitals and health care providers on January 1, 2022. There is strong, bipartisan support in Congress for addressing these looming payment cuts and failing to include a fix for them in the CR will cause more uncertainty for hospitals at a time when they’ve already faced far too much.
As hospitals and health care providers struggle with ongoing financial, operational and workforce challenges, Congress must address these impending Medicare payment reductions before they take effect in January. This is critical to reducing the hardship faced by hospitals and caregivers continuing to serve on the front lines of this pandemic.
