IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Vizient, Inc. is donating more than $1 million to help provide emergency relief to the impacted employees of health care organizations in southern Texas and Louisiana.
When crisis hits, Vizient member physicians, nurses and staff are on the front lines, working overtime to care for those in need. Yet oftentimes many of these individuals are themselves victims of the disaster.
Through the Vizient Foundation, Vizient – the company, its employees, its suppliers and fellow Vizient member hospitals across the country – are stepping in to care for the care givers.
Vizient is the nation’s largest health care performance improvement company serving a diverse membership that includes academic medical centers, pediatric facilities, community hospitals, integrated health care delivery networks and non-acute health care providers located across the country.
“We have several member hospitals in South Texas and Louisiana that have been hit hard by this storm,” says Curt Nonomaque, President and CEO, Vizient. “Several even had to evacuate patients and close some facilities. We wanted to mobilize as quickly as possible to give as much help as we could.”
Vizient offered to match employee donations 3:1 through Sept. 30, so that every dollar given results in $4 being contributed to Vizient hospital employees in need. Vizient’s 3,000 employees raised more than $150,000 from their own pockets in only 72 hours. In addition to employee contributions, the company is contributing an additional $1 million in matching funds and contributions. The company has also collected more than $125,000 from members and suppliers. These numbers will grow, as Vizient will continue to solicit donations over the coming months and distribute funds to help employees of member hospitals.
In addition to financial contributions, Vizient employees are also donating household goods, clothing and their time to volunteer opportunities.
Vizient has a long history of helping its member health care organizations in times of disaster. Since 1992, its Disaster Relief Fund has distributed nearly $11 million to member organizations affected by FEMA-declared disasters so they can provide emergency cash to their employees who are coping with the loss of homes and personal belongings.
