IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Vizient, Inc. today announced it is accepting applications from health care startup companies interested in competing in its sixth annual Innovation Challenge, which will take place October 3 as part of the 2018 Vizient Connections Summit to be held in Las Vegas. Applications are due by 5:00 p.m. CDT on Monday, August 6, 2018.

The Innovation Challenge is an interactive competition that offers a unique opportunity for health care startup companies with innovative and compelling solutions in the virtual/remote care and communication/care coordination domains. The companies should be revenue producing but still in the early growth stage.

  • Virtual Care/Remote Monitoring – Digital Technology (telehealth, wearables, kiosks, chatbots, robots, etc.) that connects providers and patients to care and monitoring without being face-to-face.
  • Care Coordination/Communication – Digital Technology that connects provider-to-provider and provider-to-patient to coordinate and execute on the patient’s plan of care.

The competition will include two contestants each going head-to-head in the virtual/remote care and communication/care coordination domains respectively. Each contestant will deliver an eight-minute product pitch then participate in a five-minute question and answer session from an expert panel that includes an executive from two of Vizient’s member hospitals, a venture capitalist investor and the Chief Executive Officer of Vizient. A live audience made up of roughly 2,000 health care professionals attending the 2018 Vizient Fall Connections Summit vote for their favorite innovation during the head-to-head portion of the competition in each of the domains. The overall winner will be selected by a second live audience poll.

“As a champion for innovation in health care, we are pleased to host this event,” said Bharat Sundaram, president, analytics and advisory services for Vizient. “This gives us the opportunity to highlight some of the newest and most exciting solutions aimed at improving the quality and delivery of patient care.”
