IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--VHA Inc., which recently combined with UHC to form the largest member-owned health care company in the country, today announced the presentation of its President’s Award of Honor to two member health care systems for performance related achievements over the course of 2014. The awards were presented to Novant Health and Yale New Haven Health System on Thursday, May 14, during VHA’s national Navigating to Excellence Forum, held in Las Vegas.

“Each year VHA hosts a national meeting for our members where peers can discuss common challenges, share insights and talk with industry experts who are leading change in their organizations,” said Colleen Risk, VHA executive vice president, member networks. This year’s event included more than 60 educational sessions hosted by thought-leaders from hospitals, health care systems and research and policy organizations throughout the country as well as VHA experts.

VHA’s President’s Award of Honor is a special recognition for member health care systems receiving an Excellence award in more than one category in a calendar year. Novant Health qualified for the President’s award by winning awards in clinical effectiveness and supply chain sourcing and resource management. Yale New Haven Health System qualified by earning awards in supply chain management innovation and sustainability.

“Novant Health and Yale New Haven Health System are high performing health systems committed to continuous improvement in all areas of their organization,” said Risk. “These leaders are mapping the path to cost and quality of care improvements required in order to thrive in today’s health care environment. Our hope is that by recognizing these hospitals for their success, other health systems will apply these leading practices in their own organizations to more quickly achieve results.”

Yale New Haven Health System also received VHA’s President’s Award of Honor in 2012, 2013 and 2014. Novant Health previously won the award in 2012.
