With potential shortages and retail market price hikes, Novation’s NOVAFOOD suppliers continue to offer safe and efficacious products
IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Novation is committed to protecting the health of patients and ensuring quality products remain available. With the emergence of avian flu, or highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), NOVAFOOD® has taken proactive measures to ensure contracted egg suppliers continue to offer safe and affordable products to the members and affiliates Novation serves. HPAI is a virus that has been identified in some commercial poultry flocks and affected egg supply in the United States.
The diligent commitment of NOVAFOOD egg suppliers means members and affiliates of VHA Inc., UHC, Children’s Hospital Association and Provista will continue to receive exceptional pricing and healthy products. Novation’s NOVAFOOD program offers eggs via several of its suppliers. Market pricing for some egg suppliers is more than double the NOVAFOOD contracted price for eggs.
“Novation is continuing to proactively monitor and address this issue to protect the interest of the members and affiliates we serve,” said Jenifer Axline, Novation vice president of contract and program services. “We and our NOVAFOOD suppliers remain dedicated to seeking solutions so we may offer the best possible pricing while ensuring product safety. Our suppliers’ dedication -- mitigating product interruption whenever possible -- has been crucial to our success during this industrywide issue.”
HPAI has greatly impacted the egg supply nationwide, with wholesale egg prices increasing 120% just from May to June of this year, according to the National Association of Egg Farmers. The prediction that June’s average price for a dozen wholesale eggs would be between $1.60 and $1.66 represented a 30 cent increase from May’s prediction and a 20 cents per dozen increase above the annual average in 2014.*
Novation continues to monitor the market and work with contracted suppliers on behalf of the members and affiliates we serve. More information about HPAI is available on the U.S. Department of Agriculture website at www.usda.gov.
