Vizient Honors Destiny Rescue with the 2018 Norman Borlaug Humanitarian Award

"Destiny Rescue shines the light of hope into the lives of children caught in human trafficking. Through the work of this amazing organization, children find safety, education and emotional support to begin to heal"

IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Vizient, Inc. has selected Destiny Rescue as the winner of its annual Norman Borlaug Humanitarian Award honoring the organization’s extraordinary work helping others and making a difference in the world. Vizient presented the award, which included a grant to further the work of Destiny Rescue, on Wednesday, May 2 at the 2018 Vizient Connections Summit in Las Vegas.

Vizient’s humanitarian award is named for the late Dr. Norman Borlaug, an agronomist who was known as “the man who saved a billion lives” for his revolutionary approach to plant breeding that radically changed agriculture and resulted in a wheat variety that exponentially increased yields while actively resisting drought and disease. His “green revolution” breakthrough saved nearly a billion lives in rural parts of Mexico, India and Pakistan. Borlaug dedicated his life’s work to finding ways to end famine and feed the world’s hungry. Dr. Borlaug was one of only six people awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, the Presidential Medal of Honor, and the Congressional Gold Medal.

Founded in 2011, Destiny Rescue works to bring freedom and restoration to children worldwide trapped in sexual exploitation. The internationally recognized, Christian-focused nonprofit is active in Cambodia, India, Laos, Philippines and Thailand. Their vision is to see the exploitation and trafficking, created by poverty, end in our lifetimes. The program incorporates rescue, restoration, protection and empowerment to bring children to a place where they feel valued and esteemed, and where they can be kids again.

“Destiny Rescue shines the light of hope into the lives of children caught in human trafficking. Through the work of this amazing organization, children find safety, education and emotional support to begin to heal,” said Rand Ballard, chief customer officer for Vizient. “Destiny Rescue truly embodies the spirit of Dr. Borlaug and his life-long commitment to hope and his dedication to creating a better world.”
