Erika Johnson, MHSA
With oversight of the Vizient Research Institute, which includes the Center for Economic Research and Strategy and the Center for Innovation and Clinical Effectiveness, Johnson is responsible for the company’s traditional economic research, which has a 20-year legacy as a source of strategic thought leadership for academic medical centers. She also leads the development of applied health services initiatives, focusing on rapid-cycle experimentation to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of clinical care and ensure economic sustainability.
Since her arrival at the company as a fellow in 2004, Johnson has served in several leadership positions, most recently as senior director of strategic research. Prior to joining the company, Johnson completed a postgraduate administrative fellowship at the University of Michigan Health System, where she was involved in executive-level projects related to clinical operations, medical education and research, working directly with the hospital’s CEO and the medical school’s executive associate dean. She has also held administrative positions with other teaching hospitals in southeast Michigan, including Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak and St. John Health System.
Johnson holds a bachelor of science degree in biology and a master of health services administration degree from the University of Michigan.
