Vizient, Inc. Concerned about Elimination of Individual Mandate in the Senate Tax Bill and Its Subsequent Impact on Patients, Hospitals and Providers

IRVING, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Vizient, Inc., is disappointed that the revised Senate version of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act includes the elimination of the Affordable Care Act’s individual mandate. While this is not a full repeal of the ACA, it could have a similar effect by eliminating critical financial underpinnings. We believe this provision would further destabilize insurance markets and have significant, negative impacts on individuals’ ability to afford their health insurance coverage.

The Congressional Budget Office recently estimated that repealing the mandate would result in 13 million fewer people with health insurance and premium hikes of 10 percent per year. This legislation would not only negatively impact patients, but will also put an increasing strain on hospitals and providers throughout the country.
